DAVE IBEN

Dave is the Co-Chief Investment Officer, Lead Portfolio Manager, and Managing Member of Kopernik Global Investors, which he founded in July 2013. From July 2012 through March 2013, Dave managed the $2.7 billion Global Value Long/Short Equity portfolio at Vinik Asset Management. Prior to this, Dave was co-founder, CIO, Co-President, and Lead Portfolio Manager of Tradewinds Global Investors, a $38 billion (at February 2012) firm. Dave directed Tradewinds’ investment activities, including portfolio management, research, and trading, and has been recognized by nationally known publications such as Bloomberg, Lipper, etc. Notably, Dave was awarded the 2023 Fund Manager Lifetime Achievement Award from the London Value Investor Conference.

Dave was previously CEO, Lead Portfolio Manager, and Founding Member of Palladian Capital Management, and Senior Portfolio Manager at Cramblit & Carney. He began his career with Farmers Group in 1982, where, at the time of his departure in 1996, he was acting as the CIO responsible for $16 billion of investable assets. Dave earned a BA from the University of California, Davis, his MBA. from the University of Southern California, and holds the CFA designation.

Since 2024, Dave chairs the Board of Advisors for the USC Marshall School Center for Investment Studies. As Board Chair, Dave advises the Center Director by providing strategic insights and direction to help guide the Center’s mission of advancing investment knowledge and experiential learning through academic research, student education, and industry engagement.

STEPHANIE POMBOY

Stephanie Pomboy is the founder of Macro Mavens, a renowned economic research firm known for its contrarian insights and rigorous macroeconomic analysis. With over three decades in the financial sector, she has built a reputation for her prescient economic forecasts and market strategies. Prior to establishing Macro Mavens in 2002, Stephanie gained valuable experience at Cyrus J. Lawrence, working under the mentorship of economist Ed Hyman.

At Macro Mavens, Stephanie provides in-depth research and strategic advice to institutional investors, hedge funds, and other financial professionals. Her unconventional yet accurate insights have made her a sought-after commentator in major financial media outlets and a regular guest on business television networks.

Stephanie’s leadership and innovative approach to economic research have significantly influenced the financial market landscape. She is also an advocate for financial education, frequently speaking at industry conferences and seminars to share her knowledge and promote a deeper understanding of economic principles among investors and policymakers.

GRANT WILLIAMS

Grant Williams, much to his dismay, has logged over 35 years in ﬁnance. During that time, he’s lived and worked in seven major ﬁnancial centres from London to Sydney, building the kind of network that many others can only dream about.

He began his career in the Japanese equity market in the mid-1980s, before a three-year posting to Tokyo ensured he had a ringside seat as the twin bubbles in equities and real estate burst simultaneously and spectacularly at the end of 1989. After a short stint back in London, Grant relocated once again, this time to New York, where he spent 7 years. Subsequent postings have taken him to Hong Kong, Sydney, Singapore, and the Cayman Islands.

Currently, he is a senior advisor to Von Greyerz in Switzerland, and a portfolio and strategy advisor to Vulpes Investment Management in Singapore.

Back in 2014, Grant’s ambition to bring the most intelligent, engaging, and original people in ﬁnance to a wider audience led him to co-found Real Vision, an on-demand internet-based ﬁnancial media platform.

Grant’s twin Real Vision interview series, In Conversation With… and On The Road raised the bar for financial content – engaging and educating viewers in equal measure and helping them learn the secrets behind a group of extraordinary investors’ success.

Long before Real Vision, however, Grant was guiding people around the fringes of ﬁnance with his regular newsletter, Things That Make You Go Hmmm…, a publication which, from humble beginnings as a daily note to a few friends and colleagues, has grown into one of the most widely-read ﬁnancial publications in the world.

MICHAEL GREEN

Michael has studied markets and market structures for nearly 30 years. He has presented his proprietary research to the Federal Reserve, the BIS, the IMF and numerous other industry groups and associations.

Michael joined Simplify in April 2021 after serving as Chief Strategist and Portfolio Manager for Logica Capital Advisers, LLC. Prior to Logica, Michael managed macro strategies at Thiel Macro, LLC. Prior to Thiel, he founded Ice Farm Capital, a discretionary global macro hedge fund. From 2006-2014, Michael founded and managed the New York office of Canyon Capital Advisors where he established their global macro strategies, managing in excess of $5B of exposure across equity, credit, FX, commodity and derivative markets.

Additionally, Michael has been noted for his work as a public speaker and financial media participant. He is a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a CFA holder.

TOM HOENIG

Thomas Hoenig is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Mr. Hoenig engages in research and comment on economics, money and banking, and related policy topics and provides economic outlook and related services to investment firms and businesses across the country.

Prior to joining the Mercatus Center, Mr. Hoenig served as Vice Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from 2012 until 2018. In that capacity, he oversaw FDIC operations and policy related to deposit insurance pricing, bank supervision, and financial stability and bank resolution. He served as Chair of the FDIC’s Bank Appeals and Audit Committees, and served as Director of NeighborWorks America, which was established by Congress in 1978 to address housing issues nationwide. He also served as a member of the International Association of Deposit Insurers’ board from 2012 to 2017, and as the President and Chairman from October 2015 to October 2017.

Mr. Hoenig was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and a member of the Federal Reserve System's Federal Open Market Committee from 1991 to 2011. As President and Chief Executive Officer, he led the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City during the Great Recession and the banking crisis of 2008 and 2009. During his tenure, Mr. Hoenig also organized and hosted the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Jackson Hole economic symposium for global central bankers.

In addition to his professional achievements, he has written and spoken extensive on topics related to money and banking and was featured in the book,” The Lords of Easy Money”, written by Christopher Leonard. Mr. Hoenig is the recipient of the Truman Medal for Economic Policy, awarded by the Truman Library Institute, The Economic Club of Kansas City and the Bloch School of Banking.

Mr. Hoenig is from Fort Madison, Iowa and received a doctorate in economics from Iowa State University.

DR. PIPPA MALMGREN

Dr. Pippa Malmgren is the founder and CEO of Geopolitica Institute and a Strategic Advisor to C10 Labs, the MIT Media Lab-based AI Venture Builder Studio. She is on the Young Presidents Organization Faculty and a Senior Associate Fellow of RUSI, the world’s leading defense think tank. She is also a Founder member of LUNARC, a lunar university project. She launched an award-winning drone startup and continues to advise several start-ups and start-up incubators in cutting-edge technologies. She was formerly economic advisor to President George W. Bush in the White House and a member of the National Economic Council and served in a board role to the British Government. Before joining public service, she was the Chief Currency Strategist for Bankers Trust and as the Deputy Head of Global Strategy at UBS.

She is also an award-winning bestseller author: The Leadership Lab won Business Book of the Year in 2019. She won an International Press Award 2020 for her book, The Infinite Leader in 2021. She writes a column about the world economy, technology and geopolitics on Substack called Dr. Pippa’s Pen and Podcast.

She has a BA from Mount Vernon College and an M.Sc. and PhD from LSE in International Political Economy. She completed the Harvard Program on National Security and has lectured at Duke University in the Global Executive MBA Program (GEMBA) and at Sandhurst, The Royal College for Defense Studies and the Air Force Academy.

TOM McCLELLAN

Tom McClellan is the Editor of The McClellan Market Report and its companion Daily Edition. He is privileged to still be working with his 91 year old father Sherman McClellan, the creator of the McClellan Oscillator and Summation Index. Tom is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point, and served as an Army helicopter pilot before starting his career as a stock market analyst in 1995. Tom has over 100k followers on X (Twitter) and you have seen him as a guest on CNBC and Fox Business News. He is an expert on market breadth indicators, and on tracking "liquidity waves" which is his term for how up and down waves will appear first in one market (like gold) and then the same waves move onto other markets (grains, oil, and bonds).

ANDREW McDERMOTT

Andrew grew up in Memphis, attended Princeton, and joined NEC Logistics in Tokyo in 1992. In 1994 joined JPMorgan, where he worked on deals ranging from Chinese infrastructure finance to venture capital to tech IPOs in Hong Kong, New York, Singapore and San Francisco. He joined Southeastern Asset Management in 1998 and helped lead its international business until 2009 from Memphis, Tokyo and London. In 2010, he founded Mission Value Partners, a Japan-focused investment firm, in Sonoma, CA and returned to Tennessee in 2021. His Tokyo-based partner, Yohei Yamada, spent six years in Maryville, TN before returning to Japan to attend college at Keio University and pursue his PhD in Computational Neuroscience at the University of Tokyo. He has participated in numerous events dedicated to combining the best of the US and Japanese systems, using Tennessee as a model of co-operation. Andrew currently resides in Nashville with his wife Kelly and four children.
